Identifying When A Notable Crypto Projects Social Has Been Hacked

Zetachain just announced its airdrop and its main net launch, I was about to click the link but decided to check the comment section. one green flag, the comment section was not turned off, this means that the link being shared by the project is likely legit, the comment section had a lot of people sharing their fear as they were trying to be cautious about the link, hoping its not a posing link. We all got the same for because the zeta airdrop was unexpected, it came like a shock. I went to the discord and the discord chat section wasn’t locked as well, which is another green flag, in the discord group lots of people were talking about the airdrop and their eligibility and that was another green flag, so I went, clicked the link and checked my eligibility.

In my little experience with the crypto community and their social media getting hacked, these are some of my observations. When hackers hack discord or twitter of crypto projects, they post a phishing link I the discord, and lock all channels that gives the members accessibility to chat or comment. They usually post it on the announcement section, then lock the general chat section, lock the GM-GN section. Because if these sections were open, it will be easy for the members to raise alarm and alarm others that the channel has been hacked. most times the link looks like the original link but just a minor difference is number or character. Most phishing links contain the ”-“ sign. How many people use that sign on their link, they put it there knowing fully well that its inconspicuous. Before you click any site check the link properly.

For the twitter hack, they post the link and lock the comment section, so that people won’t alarm others about the hack, when you see a notable crypto project twitter account posting but locking their comment section, then suspect something fishy(phishy). This is all I know for now.
