Nearly Got Scammed Through Email

These crypto scammers are getting smarter by the day, as you are working so hard to make your money, they are getting smarter on how to steal the money from you. The advise “Be Careful” is so cliche we don’t take it seriously anymore, but we have to be careful. I am used to a lot of scams especially email scams, I thought I wasn’t going to fall for anyone until yesterday when I nearly fell for one.

Few months ago I did some zklink tasks, which is a huge project on the ethereum layer 2 chain, so I was highly interested in the project. Didn’t really participate fully in the airdrop because the gas fee was too high and it will cost a lot to interact with, especially when you don’t know what the airdrop value will be. So I decided to participate in the coin list presale, the presale was nice, although I got he boost ahead others because I had an OG NFT or some sort or I registered for OG, but this was before they initiated the liquidity lock program. After joining the coin list pre sale, I started waiting for the token to launch which was supposed to launch on March 30th, but it was postponed.

I noticed that the zklink is undergoing an aggregate program where you can lock 0.1 ETH on their platform for some mystery box and a chance to get part of the airdrop. I didn’t have 0.1 ETH to lock, so I didn’t. Yesterday I received an email that was perfectly crafted making me feel so important. The email is above, you can read it, I got so excited and all of a sudden I started looking for 0.1 ETH to lock. I asked myself how they got my email, but in the email, they referred to me as one of the coin list presale participants, which was right because I participated.

So I was like, this can never be scam. Even though I receive emails from crypto projects, I like doing to their twitter and discord to be sure. But this time I didn’t I clicked on the provided link, now it’s asking me for some referral code, I went to discord to ask for some referral code and no one is talking about the email. Then I scrolled up and found someone asking the legitimacy of the email and the moderator said it’s a scam. I looked at the website URL and found (-) in the website, that is a common sign used by scammers because it’s highly unnoticeable. And here, that saved me, the referral code they asked for was their mistake, because that led me to their discord and saved me from getting scammed.

I guess you were over excited and missed the preambles. DYOR is a popular word which is very vital. Happy you never fell victim, i have also learnt (-). Never knew about this.

They probably got your email from the database of the presale participants. Scammers are indeed becoming so smart and sophisticated. Better to triple check and verify before proceeding with such offers.
