Sell Me This Pen

Are you a good sales man? Do you think you can ever work in marketing? Do you think you have the skills it takes to sell something to someone even if they don’t need it, but you are able to convince them that they need it more than they think they do? This is something lots of people don’t know when selling, a good sales man has to deal with psychology, how to entice people into patronizing them even if they think they might not need it. Some of the things I have bought from people, especially things I didn’t end up using or needing, I got them because the sales man sold me an emotion associated with the pen.

When you turn on your TV or when you are watching an ad on YouTube most times, you will notice that the ads shown get associated with stories and emotions. It’s easy to see a pen, pens are every where, but what makes your pen special? So rather than sell you a pen, they sell you an emotion, something to attract your loyalty towards making sure you love that pen and keep using the pen. Whenever you think about the pen you think about the emotion you were sold to. After this emotions are sold, then comes the pen’s features, then comes relating the pen and its features to notable figures in the world. Just to make you feel special for using the pen.

I’m using pen as the object being sold but pen can be anything, I remember buying a vans shoe because the seller sold me an emotion of how vans made him feel when he was young. He remembered having good memories with his dad wearing them while his dad thought him how to ride a skateboard. I was moved by his story I bought a pair and I can’t see the Vans shoe the same anymore.
