Social Media & Politics

Social media has changed the game in all aspect, it’s one of the most fastest, easiest and best form of transmitting information across people. Try and think of what broadcasting was like 40 years ago, for instance, if information were to be passed to the public, a notice is sent out to let everyone know and get ready to receive the information. If you are unlucky t o not watch or listen to whatever information was passed, especially when it was passed through the radio, you have to rely on another person who listed to tell you about it. And even though everyone might listen to the same thing, you dont expect everyone to describe it exactly the same. This is how mis information got spread so quickly.

If the president or a respectable public figure wanted to do an interview where they participate in a question and answers section to connect with the public, they go to a high reputable means, either a high reputable show, or being on the newspaper or the magazine. this way its more valuable and nothing cant be changed, this also means that the information can get altered to suit whatever narrative the public figure wanted to pass. But today we have social media, presidents are now using social media and influencers to pass their message, and almost everyone who has access to a smart phone and an internet can access.

Everyone now has information and access tp information so easily, the president is on TikTok, doing TikTok trends, your most serious public figure doesn’t mind hoping on that TikTok trend to make sure they connect with their followers properly. This is the power of social media, once created to connect people is now changing lives and how people connect compared to the previous traditional way.
