The People Are Hungry They Beg

Today is protest day in my country Nigeria, this is the second protest in 4 years and this is Nigerians begging for the bare minimum of being able to afford the basic things of life. The first protest was in 2020 and it was about police brutality, the Nigerian youths were asking the police to stop killing them, unfortunately they didn’t listen.

It’s been 4 years, and the people have gone from police brutality to protesting against bad governance. Life in Nigeria is very hard, the cost of living is too high for the citizens to afford. Imagine meals been considered the meal for the poor becoming too expensive for the poor that even the middle class is complaining on how expensive the meal for the poor is and how they can almost not afford it anymore. The rich is not considered the rich anymore, they are one expense away from being considered the poor. Prices of goods and services are skyrocketing more than it supposed to, Nigeria has never had a successful protest that led to a change but what choice do they have?

Lots of great minded Nigerians are leaving Nigeria because they are not valued in their country, they have skills that ought to make their lives better but the country doesn’t care or treat them well, so migrating to a better country is the only option they have. Today felt like a holiday as most Nigerians went out to protest, it is nice but we don’t know if this will help in any way because Nigeria is not a true democratic country.
